WebRTC Leak Test

Check if your browser is exposing your real IP address through WebRTC

Checking for WebRTC leaks...

What is a WebRTC Leak?

WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is a technology built into modern browsers that enables peer-to-peer connections for video calls, voice chat, and file sharing. To establish these direct connections, WebRTC needs to discover your device's IP addresses — including your local network IP and your public IP address.

The problem is that WebRTC can bypass your VPN tunnel to discover your real public IP address using STUN servers. This happens at the browser level, completely independent of your VPN connection. Even if your VPN is working perfectly and all your web traffic is encrypted, a malicious website can use simple JavaScript code to query WebRTC and discover your real IP address.

How This Test Works

Our test creates a WebRTC peer connection using public STUN servers (the same servers that real WebRTC applications use). When your browser processes this request, it reveals any IP addresses it can discover — both local network addresses and public addresses. We collect these IPs and compare them against your VPN's IP address to determine if your real IP is being exposed.

If the test discovers IP addresses that are different from your VPN's IP, you have a WebRTC leak. This means any website you visit could potentially discover your real IP address using the same technique, even while your VPN is active.

How to Prevent WebRTC Leaks

Firefox

Type about:config in the address bar, search for media.peerconnection.enabled and set it to false. This completely disables WebRTC. Note that this will break video calling websites.

Chrome / Edge / Brave

Install a WebRTC leak prevention extension like 'WebRTC Leak Prevent' or 'uBlock Origin' which can block WebRTC IP discovery. Chrome does not have a built-in setting to disable WebRTC.

Safari

Safari has built-in WebRTC leak protection. Go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy and ensure 'Prevent cross-site tracking' is enabled. Safari limits WebRTC IP exposure by default.

Use a VPN with Leak Protection

The best VPN services include built-in WebRTC leak protection that prevents browsers from exposing your real IP. Unblock Master VPN encrypts all traffic including WebRTC connections.
